If you’re looking for a way to bring a warm and cozy feeling to your room there is no better way then implementing some wall molding. Adding interest and texture, wall moldings if chosen correctly will embrace a room and give it that intimate charmed feeling. With so many ways to decorate a room these days, one must not forget about wall moldings and how you can use it to bring in a room.
Unlike crown molding which tends to be big and bold and lines and pieces, wall molding is smaller in size and a lot less subtle. You can also use it to tie in different attributes of a room such as wallpaper, wall pediments and other wall decorations.
The most common used wall molding is either base boards or mid level molding. Wall base molding is found throughout every house and located at the bottom of the wall. This gives the wall a nice transition into the floor. This type of molding has become a staple mate in building house.
Another common type of wall moulding and my favorite is wallpaper molding. This molding is used when wallpaper needs to be broken up. Typically located in the middle of a wall where the wallpaper ends. This gives the wall a clean look, but also is used to cover up any imperfections that might have been made while cutting the wallpaper. I really like this look to bring a cozy feeling. It give the wall a shorter appearance and brings in the room.
Last but not least, wall trim is another type of wall molding that is used quite a bit. This type of molding can be used around pictures and other wall décor where you want to bring a focal point. Wall trim can also be used on doors and other places where framing a particular structure is needed. Wall trim is a very versatile molding that when used effectively can be your go to wall molding.
Buying wall molding is easy as any large home improvement center will have it available. They should also have the different types of wall molding that were mentioned. I would recommend sticking to Lowes and Home Depot as there return policy is nice if you happen to buy too much or maybe the wrong kind of wall molding.
If your wanting to find a unique type of wall molding…I would suggest looking into your local wood shop. If you are wanting a particular style or pattern, a wood shop will be able to custom make wall molding. This might be the case if you have say some crown molding that your trying to match. If you go this route then be prepared to pay some extra cash for custom wall molding as it will be pretty expensive. I must say that having custom molding really does set a room apart as far as uniqueness.
